The grand opening still to come...

Xwama restaurant will be open to the general public as from 1st October 2012, and the grand opening  will follow soon. Due to the ongoing renovations, we have been serving mostly groups and corporate events and were a bit limited on individual orders. We would like to thank all our clients that have been supporting us all the way.

Xwama will continue with it's customer-oriented approach and we highly appreciate those who have rated Xwama as the most established traditional restaurant in Windhoek. September 2012 was highlighted by the corporate dinners we hosted, e.g. FNB and Standard Bank, and the visit of the American popular rapper "Eve".

The Xwama managements therefore invites institutions and individuals to reserve for their events and end-year functions.

Namibia is regarded as one of the peaceful countries in the world, with a rich cultural heritage and traditions.
 
We are about 2.2 million people, which represent one of the lowest population densities on the African continent counting to 1.5 people per km^2. This fact is suprising because there are 11 main ethinic group in Namibia. One might think that with all those ethinic groups, we must be atlease +- 11 million people. Nevertheless, we are one united nation.
 
The Food delights offered in Namibia are as vibrant and varied as the history and culture of the Namibian people. Having said that, the local food that you might indulge in is based on which region you are in. Which means, if you are in the capital city, you should expect to eat mordern food only. That is not suprising either, because it is hard to get traditional food in the capital.
 
Of course you will  get your red meat and chicken in windhoek. It is amazing how Namibians love their meat and chicken. A meal with no meat in Namibia is not considered as a real meal.
 
Since it is so hard to get your traditional cooked meat and chicken and other types of food in Windhoek, Xwama Cultural Village is there to serve you. It is the only restaurant where you get your traditional food and feel at home (village or farm) again. That sounds appealing! Xwama restaurant believes that, culture is one of the aspect we should respect and we shoul't let it die despite where we are.

The count down has started

In the previous blog post, we mentioned that Xwama means ignite or set alight. As for now, Xwama is really igniting in Windhoek as the best known traditional restaurant. We have put up a very big bill board in Katutura showing where to find us and where to contact us if you want to get the foretaste of the Namibian traditional food.

                                                                                                     

We started counting down to the re-opening of the renovated restaurant recently. The new building is almost done and everything seems to work out as planned. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and on our website to catch up on the latest developments.

We have been talking enough about the delicacy of the traditional food and what the restaurant presents lately. Did you know

Did you know that Xwama is an Oshiwambo name which means “set alight”/ignite? Meaning it is time for us to ignite and celebrate who we are, our culture, our food and people!

In the previous blog post, we mentioned that Xwama’s extension will consist Of an extended parking area, children entertainment area, VIP area, a big conference room and a coffee shop which will be first of its kind in Katutura. I think we forgot to mention one exiting thing that attracts our guest to dine at our restaurant. Our guests always ask what is new in the menu and our specials.

Xwama’s menu will stay the same and the prices are not going to change. But we decided to add few items on the menu which will include Cappuccino with a secret recipe. I am sure we are all thinking of what the secret recipe will be; only those that will visit the restaurant once reopened will have a taste of it.

Xwama Cultural Village

Xwama Cultural Village and restaurant is located in the heart of Windhoek, in the diverse township ‘Katutura’. It offers a truly Namibian and African experience, a place where you can experience the true local culture.

The restaurant offers traditional cuisine and drinks. Xwama Cultural Village is a prominent hangout for both middle class young professionals, political figures, senior government officials and tourists. It is owned by one of Namibia's foremost young entrepreneurs Twapewa Kadhikwa, better known as Pewa and her husband Erastus Kadhikwa.

At the moment, the restaurant is under construction (extending). This is not an ordinal restaurant, there are many interesting facilities within and that is why it is called a village. It’s amazing facilities includes a conference area, a  playground for children and it’s extended sitting area which will be hosting 310 people, unlike before when it used to host only 115 people. The conference facility will be able to host 40 people, host your conference at the village and enjoy the traditional food and the cultural atmosphere.

When the restaurant started in 2008, it had 24 employees but now it will take in more 15 employees when the extension is done.  The construction/extension will complete by the end of August and the restaurant will surely open in mid September.

“We would like to share our home, culture and foods with our guests and give them a truly memorable experience” says Mrs Twapewa. Continuing “we want the restaurant to be a home away from home, where guests enjoy the background traditional music, while ethnic decoration takes them back to African roots, with rich African and Namibian flavours nourishing their Body and Soul”.

Xwama Cultural Village invites all its guests to the opening and enjoys the African taste of the traditional food.
